I’m Fraser, the writer and performer of DWGB. I came to London, from Leith, in September 2019 for my acting training at Fourth Monkey. I graduated in 2021 with a thirst for queer theatre. I wrote the first pages of DWGB, venting thinking nothing would come from it, last year after another unfulfilling male encounter. It felt good, like therapy getting all these thoughts out of my head. Weeks later having put those pages to one side I went to a scratch night to support a friend and got absolutely sloshed after! Feeling (drunkenly) inspired by all the lovely pieces I announced that I had written something that I thought would be perfect for Sláinte!’s next scratch night themed ‘Pride’. The next morning I woke up with the worst hangover and went “fuck, now I need to submit something!” That’s where I met my director and dramaturg, Ormella. After reading my pages she got from Sláinte! we had a call and she said how fun and funny she found this monologue, I was like “wit? I was pure pouring my heart out!” After a fab reception we decided to carry on the story. Unlike the first few pages, this piece became less autobiographical, Ormella helping and encouraging me to let the piece grow arms and legs. And it did! Earning a slot at CPT’s Sprint Festival the wonderful Iona Bremner came on as producer and Nawel Kobb as our fabulous technician, sound and lighting designer. The rest is history!

    DESPERATE WEE GAY BOY

    Sat 14 Dec at 9pm
‘DESPERATE WEE GAY BOY’ started as a vent, an agitation towards the London dating scene and then more specifically gay dating and hookup culture.

"It is precisely these types of projects, involving these types of people, in these types of theatres that make London what it is."
