  • Our Community

    Image:

Our local community is central to all of the activity that we deliver at CPT. As a ‘People’s Theatre’ this work is largely driven by our Local Steering Group, who design and deliver free to access workshops, performances and festivals throughout the year. With their support this activity seeks to connect residents of all ages and backgrounds with the radical performance being created on our stages.

    Local Steering Group

Established in 2022, our Local Steering Group is made up of 15 (and counting) local residents who meet monthly to design our community engagement activity. They are also heavily involved in the decision making process for our commissions and residencies that are awarded to artists, through shortlisting applicants to sitting on the interview panel. Most recently, the Steering Group stepped up to become the Guest Curators for The Camden Roar Festival, CPT’s 30th anniversary festival featuring performances about Camden, created by Camden Artists.

To find out more about how to get involved with the Local Steering Group, please contact our Community Coordinator – kara@cptheatre.co.uk

    Community Takeover Days

Throughout the year, CPT hands over its building to the local community for a series of takeover days featuring workshops, performances and activities for all the family. Each takeover day is themed to respond to community interest. For example, our recent History and Heritage Day featured a talk by Cllr. Nasim Ali about the history of community organising in the building – this has led to the development of a new CPT project – Bengali Boys.

    Camden Youth Theatre

Camden Youth Theatre is a free weekly performance workshop for teenagers in Camden. First established in 2016 in response to local demand, the project is delivered in partnership by CPT, New Diorama Theatre and Old Diorama Arts Centre. Over the years the group has created five incredible professional productions that were presented on CPT and NDT’s stage, a podcast and three short films.

To find out more about CYT and how to join in please visit the CYT page.

    Tolmer’s Square Variety Spectacular

Every year CPT produces a free family festival in the square just behind the theatre. First launched in the summer of 2020 as a creative event that people could watch safely from their balcony’s and windows, the festival has become an annual celebration of our local community. Find out more on our 'Current Projects' page.

Reduced ticket prices for NW1 residents

All NW1 residents can book CPT shows for just £10! Simply select a £10 local resident ticket instead of a standard ticket when you book online or over the phone.

Shows which hire CPT as a venue but aren't programmed by CPT may not have this rate (but those shows make up only a small portion of our events).

“British theatre would be completely stymied without tiny, under-resourced venues such as CPT, which are a critical part of the theatre ecology.”
