Coin Toss Collective are a diverse, non-hierarchical theatre company of 7 members who devise our plays together collaboratively. We formed in 2021 through Made in Bristol, a year-long theatre-making residency at the Bristol Old Vic theatre. We ‘coined’ our name in a fluke moment - while trying to decide (and disagreeing) between two other options, one of our members suggested that we toss a coin! We feel this reflects our approach to theatre-making - playful, endlessly curious, and open to serendipitous moments which take our work into unexpected territory. We make theatre which not only seeks to thrill and entertain, but also experiments with ‘liveness’ to interrogate the deep-seated issues of the modern world we live in.
We are excited to bring our award-nominated (Show of the Week, VAULT Festival 2023), ACE-funded production ‘FREAK OUT!’ to CPT as part of the spring 2024 season.
Previous work includes: ‘A Gurt Time Was Had By All’, a verbatim show which celebrates the stories of memorable nights out from the tenants of Brunelcare retirement home through the format of a randomised interactive bingo game, performed at Brunelcare and Bristol Old Vic in 2021 and Stroud Theatre Festival in 2022. ‘Summer Collection’ was a co-created production with White City Youth Theatre which focused on fast fashion, performed at the Bush Theatre in July 2023.
Our podcast ‘Coin Toss Conversations’ spotlights fellow artists/theatre makers and their work and process. The theme of its first series is making theatre in response to the climate emergency.
