stitched! is a live journalism research and creative studio. The studio creates and presents works of journalism for live audiences. As an experimental space, stitched! also explores interdisciplinary collaborations by introducing artistic interventions into storytelling, including music and dance.
Our events are designed to give audiences a ‘cover-to-cover’ audio-visual experience, interacting with many of the elements of magazine storytelling, except unfolding live.
The studio was founded as a lab in 2019 by Sonya Fatah, and stitched! has produced several performances since its inception, including student-led works of live journalism and its shows have participated in festivals. In September 2023, the studio produced the second International Live Journalism Festival.
stitched! adopts a decolonized framework and is guided by principles of oral storytelling, indigenous to multiple global communities. The lab also adopts trauma-informed reporting practices, a solidarity journalism approach, seeking to build community with audiences.
