  • Larisa Faber presents

    White Gold

    Wed 25 - Sat 28 Nov at 7:15pm (3pm mat)
    Tickets £12 - £18 (+ booking fee)
One white asparagus and her roots. One seasonal veg picker and her daughter left behind. Clowning, ballet and Beethoven about the price of perfection and waiting to be picked.

"One false move and I'm compost."

It’s time for the asparagus harvest, the last harvest, and the Asparagus Spear is ready. She thinks. But her Roots are hiding something. And where are the Pickers who must do the back breaking work? And where are their children? Back in Romania, forgetting them. It’s now or never. Before the crop rots. Europe needs her White Gold.

Weaving together the perspectives of a seasonal labourer, the daughter she never gets to see, and one precocious asparagus spear, WHITE GOLD is a surreal deep dive into the strange world of Europe’s most exclusive veg. It’s theatre, but it’s also clowning and ballet with ballads. It’s about Eastern European mothers, the price of perfection and leaving your roots behind.

Fresh from runs at Avignon Festival and Luxembourg, this is the UK premiere of award-winning writer/director Larisa Faber’s latest show and her first return to CPT since 2021 with critically acclaimed "stark bollock naked".

Co-produced by neimënster. Based on a text commissioned by University College London's European Institute. Supported by Fondation Été.
