    The Triumph of Death

    Tue 12 - Wed 13 Nov at 7.15pm
    Tickets £8 + booking fee (work-in-progress)
A bunch of artists with no funding, the ultra-wealthy, and one very sexy Death present to you a show about the healthy relationship between Art and Money.

Get 25% off when you book more than one show across our Autumn Season (September - December 2024).

Death is a two-metre skeleton puppet. Death is watching, but keeping their opinions to themself. Death is always in the room. The Triumph of Death calls out the London arts scene for schmoozing with Death in order to survive. Expect a silly, sad and hypocritical exploration of artistic self-righteousness through Renaissance art. A show that asks: are corporate patrons saving the arts, while killing everyone else? Are the donors of our cultural institutions as blood-drenched as ever, using the arts as a moral shield? That’s where we come in. Who better to call out funding sources than artists with no funding?

This exploration of the artists’ relationship with death physicalises the paintings of Pieter Bruegel, experiments with paint and mixed-media, dances with Death, sings to private patrons, and draws inspiration from reliable sources like the mediaeval danse macabre and a scene from The O.C. We reenact our own experiences as workers in arts buildings, brushing shoulders with the ultra-wealthy, and interrogate the wider ethics of arts funding. What is our responsibility to our funding sources? Are we allowing families like the Sacklers to absolve themselves in the public eye through funding art? Is art making death sexy?

"Delightfully silly performance that will resonate perfectly with its target audience, which I can only assume is gay neurodivergent nostalgia whores."

"Companies like us genuinely would not be making theatre if it was not for the ability of CPT and its team to identify artists who are worth taking a chance on."
