Drip. Drip. Drop. Three sleeping bags, an improvised kitchen, a jar of dried crickets. A number of leaks that exceeds the number of bowls to catch them in.
Adrian's life changes forever after an experience of a tragic flash flood. Now a climate refugee, he finds himself in an assigned living space in a city - a room shared with two strangers. There's only one bag of redbush left between them.
In this room the forces of fire and water meet each other, merging Adrian's dreams with reality. The past leaks into the present as he tries to rebuild his life. Navigating the chaos of the refugee system, strict food plans and survivors’ guilt Adrian searches for an escape in the world of firefighting - following the lead of charismatic Sabrina. There he finds himself exposed to technology that provides an extraordinary sense of precision and control yet threatens to take him further from his own humanity.
Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
