A work-in-progress sharing of:
Lover. Worker. Mother.
Each has a John they need to escape from. And each has a Body they need to embrace.
Lover can't stop returning to the man who's breaking her heart. When their toxic on-off affair finally implodes, she makes a reckless choice that leads to an unexpected connection. Worker is a leading Neuroendocrinologist, clinging to the career they built alongside their late spouse. As grief, workplace bias and questions of identity collide, one final opportunity to shape their future forces them to confront everything they've buried. Meanwhile, Mother is unraveling. Gripped by intrusive thoughts, she’s disappearing beneath the weight of parenthood. Terrified of losing her child, nature presents a path of its own in the shape of stifling leaves and luring waters, when a chance encounter sparks the courage she thought she’d lost. Three lives, each trapped by expectation, each haunted by the person they were told to be, each learning how to break free.
A radical piece of gig theatre about rage, resilience, and the hope found in queer coven-ship when you least expect it.
Written and directed by Imogen Frances (director of tell me straight & aggy, Park Theatre), composed by Celtic trip/pop singer Clara Pople’s (BBC’s Introducing Song of The Year, 2025), with dramaturgical support from Danielle James (Finalist, Women’s Playwrighting Prize, 2025).
Produced by Messy Theatre with support from Camden People’s Theatre, Young Vic, Exeter Northcott and Intercom Trust.
"Hats off to the CPT for this fine show, well researched and coming from a place of great passion... Community theatre at its most effective."
