Boys Beware is a work of performance art theatre that examines Jamaican queer youth, folk-horror, young love, and the pursuit of freedom under the homophobic structures of the Caribbean state. Navigating violence, desire, liberation and death, Boys Beware is a surrealist play that explores how colonialism continues to govern islands, bodies, and identity. The play asks what liberation looks like when even the self has become contested territory.
The island as a body, the body as an island. By undergoing a self operative Polysomnography, a boy splits into several people, places and things as he attempts to understand precisely how religion and colonialism form weapons against his own identity as well as the identity of his homeland.
