Once Upon A time... FIGHT! by Mikey Reece (running time 20 mins)
Who is the greatest Fairy Tale character of them all?
The Gingerbread man? The Wolf? Jack (the beanstalk guy)? There is only one way to find out... Fight!
Using the storytelling of professional wrestling and a unique soundtrack, Fairy Tale characters go head to head to crown a champion.
Mikey Reece is a physical storyteller born and based in East London. After completing a Drama degree at the Exeter University, Mikey began training as a professional wrestler in 2015, performing all over the UK and internationally.
Recently, Mikey has been interested in using the choreographic language of wrestling in more traditional theater contexts as a form of stage combat and storytelling. “Once Upon a Time... . Fight” is Mikey’s first project as lead creative and he is hoping to develop this idea into an original Wrestling Pantomime.
Developed as part of Camden Peoples Theatre Seed Commission Scheme 23.
Sticky Floors by Laurie Stevens (running time 40 minutes)
What would you do if your best friend punched you? A wild mashup of character comedy, clown, drag and live music exploring the most emo emotion: teenage anger.
It’s 2006, and David is preparing for the gig of a lifetime: headlining Sticky Floors, the coolest under-16s band night in the Bay Area.
David’s, like, super mature for a fourteen-year-old – he reads Sartre, totally gets current affairs, and has the artistic integrity never to use Limewire. But he can’t understand why his bandmate is being such an asshole! So David has to embark upon his music career alone, armed with his electric guitar, drum kit, loop station, and an unwavering commitment to rock.
Developed as part of Starting Blocks 2023, Laurie Stevens’s debut show explores teenage anger – and where it goes when we choose not to punch back.
