Mad Jacks is a queer and trans* led theatre company founded in June 2023 to coincide with a site-specific production of Travis Alabanza’s OVERFLOW staged in a women’s toilet at King’s College London. From this part mental/part magic springboard, Mad Jacks’ projects have straddled new writing, scratch/work-in-progress nights and dance-theatre for venues across London. Projects include: SCENES WITH BOYS at Riverside Studios (Bitesize Award for Best Direction); PHOTOGRAPHS at The Space; and ACNE ROMEO for Resolution Festival at The Place. Alongside artistic director Sam Smith, Mad Jacks has a merry band of associate artists: Danielle James, Georgie Lynch, Jess Senanayake, Rachel Andrews, Kate McNally and Daze Hingorani. They are very proud and excited to debut at CPT with their new project: THIS SWOLLEN THING.

Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
