Big Bang is CPT’s regular scratch night: an explosion of performance from which new universes of theatre may one day emerge. These jam-packed platforms are highlights of the CPT programme: the place to see wild and wonderful new projects take their first steps.

Each bill features three or four artists or companies performing 15-20 minutes of fresh-from-the-rehearsal-room work-in-development. They’re doing so because they want to know what works and what doesn’t, and they’d love you to tell them. So please join us for – and share your thoughts on – these exclusive previews of tomorrow’s most exciting theatre, today…

    RETRACED - fuse

    No age guidance

    Content notice: Flashing lights

RETRACED integrates live decision-making between the arts, an interdisciplinary conversation that uses interactive movement to explore boundaries of visibility, articulated through large-scale projection, light, dance, and live music.

This interdisciplinary project began with a conversation about invisible disabilities. RETRACED aims to bring awareness of how easy it is for feelings of invisibility to go unnoticed. We see the dancer appearing in and out of the light, interacting with rhythms of live music, large silhouettes, and abstract forms, never fully hidden and never in control of the shift in visibility.

The improvised nature of the piece allows the dancer and musician to momentarily respond and react to what is seen and heard, making each performance alter slightly in every recollection.

Wild Child: A Ritual Performance - Aijamal Nova

    Age Guidance: 16+

Content Notice: The piece might contain Live flames, Smoke/fog/haze, Flashing lights, Loud Noises, Burning incense or herbs onstage

    "Natural child, terrible child.
Not your mother's or your father's child.
    You're Our child, screaming wild."

A work in progress ritual performance composition based on Jim Morrisson's song 'Wild Child' and inspired by Central Asian (Kyrgyz) traditional rituals.

We were all born with our Spirit inside us.
    Of who we really are.
    Our Wild Child.
    Full of Grace.
    Savior of the human race.
    Our true Face.

    Spectra - Jamal Sterrett

No age guidance or content warnings from the artist.

Spectra stands for spectrum. I am on the spectrum. Movement is a frequency that tunes deeper into what vibrates. Transmuting paradigms and transcending perceived physical limits.

Spectra is a performance art piece embodying the ideology, that all movement is a frequency and wavelength. This piece uses the dance styles of Bruk up, flex and ballet. To create a rich transcending experience. Materialising my personal condition into an aesthetic, felt and sensory world. Providing a glimpse into a neurodivergent mind told through other worldly movements; transmuting site specific environments into works of ephemeral performance art.

955 ≤ 996 (Nine Five Five Less Than or Equal To Nine Nine Six) - 25 mins

An interactive audiovisual-physical theatre performance that provides a unique view of an employee in the race for success. 955 ≤ 996 creates an unprecedented dialogue between two performers: human and audiovisual.

955 ≤ 996 is an innovative work that expands the concept of traditional performer's dialogue, and creates a new depth of play. The work facilitates an intervention space that, on the one hand, provides a unique view of employee's mental health in a workplace, and on the other hand, holds accountable companies that promote toxic working environments.

    Content Notice: Loud noises

"The piece was an intriguing and carefully crafted solo that was beautifully performed and fully captured and sustained the audience’s attention. I can’t wait to see the work grow and develop onto the next stage."
