Speakbeast are doing a show about agriculture. Alright? We’re really doing it.
From a sleazy salesman and a fast car, to escaped cows and those farmers in supermarket adverts that surely don’t really exist, we’re all going for a surreal journey through the proud history of the giant British agricultural industry. And we are not, secretly, attempting to find some explanation for the rise of transphobia in the UK. The Freemartin is not a completely fantastical, hormone-filled, totally absurd attempt by three queers to understand why the system has been designed to eradicate trans life. And it is definitely, definitely not about why everyone should be worried about a world in which bodies – trans or otherwise – are valued by their ability to produce and profit. It will also not be explored through the medium of terrible dancing, Elvis songs, and a mouse costume we shouldn’t have bought. It will, genuinely, be about agriculture. We promise.
The Freemartin debuted at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe, was shortlisted for the Untapped Award, and received the Binge Fringe Queer Performer's Award.
“It means so much to be working at CPT, it’s such a good opportunity to work in a professional environment at my age. I didn’t think that was ever going to happen and it means the world to me. It’s really going to help prepare me for my future and where I want to go”
