Is it a lecture? Is it a gameshow? Is it a period drama? Is it a religious allegory? Is it communist propaganda? Is it a women loving women queer vegetarian six week lyric poetry symposium? Is it a raucous exploration of contemporary notions of femininity, queer joy and utopia through a vaguely historical lens?
Yes! It’s all of those things! It’s the City of Ladies, where Rectitude and Reason, two of the three muses (Justice is on a wicked comedown) must assist 15th Century French writer Lady Christine de Pizan in her mission to build a city constructed and populated exclusively by women.
This is NOT a flip project for the patch of land out back, but a necessary act of social justice and restoration for the sanctity and peace of women everywhere. But what does it actually mean to be a lady? Who gets to decide? And does it require a special sort of hat? Find out at The City of Ladies, a brand new comedy exploring womanhood and queer joy through a historical lens.
The City of Ladies is devised and performed by Polly Chedgzoy and Morgan Obermeyer, and produced by George Kempson
