Part of Sprint 2017: A showcase of the work created and developed by artists on our trailblazing Starting Blocks scheme

Starting Blocks offers the opportunity to create new theatre work with the support of Camden People's Theatre, as part of a peer network that encourages collaboration and engagement between participating artists.

Over ten weeks, the selected artists meet weekly to share practice, ideas and their developing works. They are also given space to develop their project and practice. The scheme runs from January to March 2017, allowing time for the participants to develop works-in-progress to be shown at CPT's prestigious Sprint festival.

This years artists and projects include:

    • Un-composed Figures by Christina Hardinge explores the naked truth about female life models. Looking at the world from the other side of the canvas, we ask what is it like to pose nude for artists? To be exposed to a group of strangers? To be a living 'still life'? And what exactly does the muse muse about while she is on her pedestal? @ChristinaHardly

    • Play Again by Embolon Theatre Embolon Theatre invite you to play some of their newest games to win. @Embolontheatre

    • The Ex-Boyfriend Yard Sale by Haley McGee. Inspired by a conversation with VISA in 2013, Haley promised to sell things in order to pay her bill, when she looked around her apartment and realized that all the things of value that could be sold were all gifts from exes. This prompted Haley to think about what each item was actually worth, given all the ways she'd invested in the relationships that are harder to quantify - the length of the relationship, how long it took to move on, how much emotional distress was caused, and how much fun was had. This is a show about the cost of love. @yeshaleymcgee

    • Entracte (working title) by Hannah Maxwell. A potted history of The Welwyn Thalians Musical and Dramatic Society serves as the focus for a humourous, queer, and political exploration of changing relationship to hometown and family. @_HannahMaxwell

    • Adventures in Black and White by Double Trouble Photographs from the past, journeys of the present stories of displacement told through changing voices, languages, images and sound. Exploring the mischievous and the irreverent in the face of tragedy. @juditavivas | @Momims1

    • Queens of Sheba by Ryan Calais Cameron. An exploration of the rise of Misogynoir - misogyny directed towards black women where race and gender both play roles in bias. It is the story of strong passionate women who fight to overcome the terrors of oppression in a racist and sexist society. @RyanCalaisC
