An evening of finalist projects by MA Directing students from UEL

    Risk @ 7:30pm

Eva and Jamie, a young married couple, are having a normal evening in. A conversation about their future is mixed with deciding what is for dinner  - pizza or Thai take away? Their conversation dives in to who will stay home with their hypothetical children and who will continue on with their career? Eva’s job provides much more financial stability for their future - how does that impact Jamie and his career goals? What will they do with their possible inheritance? It is a conversation filled with anxiety over what we cannot control, humor, feminism, statements that question gender and societal roles, honest communication, spreadsheets, and a lot of love.

    Casanova @ 8:30pm

What were women attracted to? What was the truth behind the mask of the most wanted man of the 17th century?

My project focuses on why he only engaged in casual encounters rather than something longer-term. Is it that he was hiding something? And behind a social mask lies insecurity or a search for something he couldn’t find?
Casanova was a man with many faces, travelling around Europe and looking for the ‘perfect woman’. I want to explore the adventurous side of his character. Also, how his search is really a search about himself, his insecurities and the misplacement/replacement of lost real love and intimacy for lust. What were women attracted to? What was the truth behind the mask of the most wanted man of the 17th century? Learn more about this famous and charismatic man, Casanova.

Playwright and Director: Vladimir Lazarov Tsvetkov

Performers: Tong Li and Michaela Brown
