Pink explores the pushes, pulls, frictions and tensions between England and Wales. These two countries (or are they nations?) have a long history of battle, whether that be in castles, on rugby pitches or in our own sense of identity. During this show, we dissect these clashes, through movement, projection, sound and words.
Yos Theatre is a collaboration between choreographer Billy Maxwell Taylor (English) and theatre maker Rhys Horton (Welsh).
Together, they share stories: stories through Welsh and through English; Stories from long ago and from now; Stories that sound like English cities or look like Welsh waves. And finally, stories of internal struggle, where words fail and the only way to express is to release the tensions through movement.
Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
