AN AIRPORT, A HOTEL ROOM, A BATHTUB, WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, A STORM, NO... A TEMPEST, THE TEMPEST, A CAMERA, AN AUDIENCE, A THEATRE, DISPLACEMENT.
'DISPLACEMENT', is a new work that explores themes of transience, obsession and Shakespeare. It frames sits somewhere between 'The Tempest', 'The house of The Rising Sun', 'Blow Up', Voltaire's 'Candide' and several other 'texts' throughout history. However, don't be scared when you hear the word 'Shakespeare'. THIS PERFORMANCE IS IN NO WAY A SHAKESPEARE ADAPTATION!! These things just become one of the many springboards in a process of decontextualising and reimagining. This is a piece about Displacement, in every sense of the word. Drawing upon our range of cultural backgrounds and experiences, we explore what displacement really means in several contexts, particularly through the lens of displaced people in Syria and across the world.
This is a live music performance, it is a lecture, a presentation, a piece of drama, of contemporary theatre, of performance art and film.
“It means so much to be working at CPT, it’s such a good opportunity to work in a professional environment at my age. I didn’t think that was ever going to happen and it means the world to me. It’s really going to help prepare me for my future and where I want to go”
