‘It was a bit of a trial of whether you’d be a good doctor or not - like whether you can stomach something that's quite unusual and intense... ’
Before they can heal the living, our future doctors learn from the dead. Their silent teachers instruct them in the intricate anatomy of the human body but also the ways of the human heart.
What does this open up for them them about healing, caring - and becoming - as a doctor?
Chimera makes playful and profound performances that dissect medical culture, mashing up creativity and science, medical learning and the artistic curiosity. Led by theatre maker Alex Mermikides, we dream of a world - and a healthcare system - that supports and celebrates feelings, imagination, reflection and kindness.
Theatre for anyone who cares or is cared for, or who cares about who cares for us and how.
This performance has been created by Dr Alex Mermikides, in her role as D’Oyly Carte Senior Lecturer in Arts and Health at Kings College London.
It was developed with support from King’s College London, D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust and British Academy in partnership with the Wellcome Trust.
"Hats off to the CPT for this fine show, well researched and coming from a place of great passion... Community theatre at its most effective."
