    CPT Statement on Chris Goode

This statement was published on 13th October 2022.

Camden People’s Theatre is an organisation that was closely associated with the artist Chris Goode in the past, and hosted his group Ponyboy Curtis.  We have been appalled to hear the upsetting accounts of abuse that artists who worked with Chris Goode experienced.

When we were working with Goode, we thought we were dealing with someone we could trust, and we believe that other organisations and individuals thought the same.  The accounts we have since been made aware of convince us that he was manipulating and exploiting situations for his own abusive purposes.

We fully support the survivors of Chris Goode’s abuse as they seek to recover from their experiences. CPT is in active conversations with them and other organisations about how we can drive forward the change required to make our sector a better place to work.

If you would like to be involved in these conversations, please contact us at seniorteam@cptheatre.co.uk.

If you have not read the series of articles and accounts published over the last week concerning Chris Goode and his activities, they can be found on The StageMaddy Costa’s Blog and The FaceContent warning: These articles all contain multiple references to sexual and emotional abuse, violence, child abuse and suicide.

If you have been affected by anything mentioned in this statement or in the articles listed above, Lucy Ellinson has compiled a comprehensive list of support services in this document.

“It means so much to be working at CPT, it’s such a good opportunity to work in a professional environment at my age. I didn’t think that was ever going to happen and it means the world to me. It’s really going to help prepare me for my future and where I want to go”
