  • The Black Smock Band

The Black Smock Band is South East London's premier gay, ecosocialist folk band... probably. As well as performing around the country, they have a long history of hosting open folk sessions for both instrumentalists and the public. This event, produced by the queer-led Daealus Theatre Company, is part of an ongoing collaboration that has included the gig-theatre piece Gerrard Winstanley's Mobile Incitement Unit, shown at venues including Latitude Festival and St Nicholas Priory, Exeter, as well as running workshops at Poplar Union, and providing music for the East Storytelling project. Other projects by the band include working with Cambridge University English Faculty and the John Clare Festival to explore Clare's music collecting.

"Our children live in the most deprived ward in London and their parents cannot afford to pay for the classes and activities many more privileged children enjoy after school and at the weekends. A free-to-access youth group run by a local theatre in a professional setting is an incredible opportunity."
