Content Noticeit is detailed - talking both about lived experience while also looking at research / facts / figures - but it is also playfully done with kids toys, party things (heart stent procedure is demonstrated with party ring biscuits, party hat, party noise toy, party popper etc), so very playful - the most aggressive is clownlike sending up of psychiatry (sick-chiatry) as whitecoat wielding a large wooden mallet to smash the roundpeg into squarehole on a kids toy after listing more and more ridiculous labels (genuinely used by psychiatry) such as 'non-conformism', 'questioning authority' etc - clearly sending things up. laughing etc rather than anything gorily graphic - we swear occasionally (another sign of 'oppositional defiance disorder') Suitable for 16+

this show is all about hearts & heartlessness. octopi have three hearts and produce their own ink yet humans call octopi violent for throwing seashells underwater. (thats interpretive dance!). humans confine these creatures then medicate them for 'zoochosis'. that medication caused our heart-attacks. our psychiatric jailers called these 'side-effects'. bleak humour is proven to aid survival. a game of competitive empathy will be played; psychiatry will be reduced to firewood; squid will fly & edible-love-poetry shared with all. heartfelt is about reframing narratives & learning to grow.

Alex Kelly of Third Angel is outside eye director.

"heartfelt weaves the personal and the political, the witty and the raging into the most fascinating map of how on earth we got here. Always a must watch."

Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
