This workshop is aimed at writers of all experience levels in getting started on writing their play. Questions addressed include: how do I get started in the research? How do I build my story? Who will be interested in these stories? Participants are encouraged to bring project-specific questions if they have them, but material and examples will also be provided. Character, dialogue, plot development will be explored, but we will also look at power, situation, and movement. What is it like to imagine the physicality of a play as a writer?
From the international theatre collective fish in a dress, Helena McBurney (PhD, King’s College London) will show through practical writing exercises and discussion how to approach writing for theatre.

Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
