Drama Soc Term Show production of Christopher Hampton’s “bourgeois comedy”, 'The Philanthropist' - an inversion of Molière’s 'The Misanthrope'. As the world falls to bits around them, the academics of an English university and a successful novelist meet up for a dinner party in the college rooms of Philip. Over the course of the evening, they share anecdotes, flirt, butt heads and engage in witty wordplay, until it is time for them all to pair off and head home... when they all awake the next morning the results are life-altering.
This amateur production of “The Philanthropist” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
