After a sell-out production at CPT's Sprint festival in 2020, and a hit run at Pleasance Courtyard at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, SWARM is re-born and more relevant than ever.

Using character comedy, clown, stand-up and spoken word, SWARM subverts the language used to dehumanise those who are othered to re-tell a far more evocative reality. As a response piece to when David Cameron referred to migrants as a "swarm", this show asks: are migrants seeking refuge in the UK really the toxic demographic pervading British society, or is it us?

From ‘anarchist clown’ and theatre-maker Liv Ello.

    Previous work by Liv Ello:

    • FIERCE @ Bush Theatre, Jack The Mack @ CPT, The Boyfriend Experience @ Hampstead Theatre, This Queer House @ VAULT Festival
    • Goldsmiths Associate Artist 2019/2020
    • Director of the Edinburgh Fringe and Soho Theatre smash-hit, Frankie Thompson’s CAttS (★★★★ The Guardian, ★★★★ Time Out, ★★★★ Fest, ★★★★.5 Chortle, ★★★★★ The To Do List, ★★★★★ Funny Women, Time Out’s Top 10 Comedy Picks of The Fringe)

    Praise for Liv Ello:

    • “an invigoratingly nerve-wracking clown […] to an activist poet, Ello is a perspective challenging shape-shifter who’s a joy to spend an hour with” – The Scotsman
    • “Ello is a highly energetic and watchable performer. Ello marks themselves out as a distinctive performer; half clown, half activist” – The Stage
    "Invigorating. Clever and imaginative."
    The Scotsman
    "Daft, anarchic and unexpectedly powerful."
    The Stage
    "Creative, moving and amazingly well-written."
    ThreeWeeks
"Playful intelligent and brave...as close to perfect as performance can ever be."
Alistair Wilkinson, Creative Director of WoLab, Talent Development at Punchdrunk

Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
