CPT’s former neighbour, Laurence Corner, was a renowned military clothing surplus shop that inspired icons such as The Beatles, Vivienne Westwood and John Paul Gaultier. MILITARIA takes references from fashion, the military, pop culture and the local residents' memories of Laurence Corner to devise a show where strange, fragmented scenes emerge among sets of clothes rails. We will explore what it means for a woman to wear military garments now, as a service uniform or as a fashion statement, while the fight for gender equality continues.
In this R&D, the audience will be guided and reconfigured in the space in this promenade style performance, but there will also be seating available. There are also moments of audience interactivity. For those who wish to opt out of this, there are lanyards available to wear which will signal this to the performers.
