RomComs are strange things. They’re our go-to watch for comfort viewing and we like how they make us feel all gooey inside. However, they harbour a dark heart in their presentation of gender, money, and the systems of power that govern our lives.
Daedalus is a technician for Ersatz Inc, a multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate. QT is a hyper intelligent supercomputer built to help him. Together they are tasked with telling the perfect love story. However, as QT starts to fall apart and the story begins to lose its plot, the whole system is called into question.
Created by feeding the scripts of around 100 rom-coms into text-generating Artificial Intelligence software, Love is, or Mechanical Rubber Ducks Sink in Bathtubs is a love letter to and takedown of the romantic comedy genre.
