After their first sell-out solo show SWARM at CPT last year, Liv Ello is back with this work-in-progress of their new solo show interrogating the relationship between class and gender in Britain through anti-drag persona, Jack The Mack.
He’s a lover and a fighter
He’s a cheeky little blighter
He’s a mod and he’s a punk
He’s a commy and a drunk
Some say he’s posh and he’s a queer
Or are those just the things he fears?
So grab a pint and ponce a smoke
And see if Jack’s really a bloke
Through the nostalgic lens of Britpop, classic sitcoms and potato smileys, Liv Ello combines a raucous blend of music, comedy and monologues to subvert and disrupt class-based portrayals of masculinity.
OH GENDER, UP YOURS!
Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
