Everyone asked of you yesterday is about Jason who misses a family event that his girlfriend, Christine, expected him to be at. The conversation which ensues as a result of his no-show eventually unpacks the real reasons for his absence and calls into question their relationship.
A brief glance into what initially appears to be a regular afternoon with Jason and Christine, this is a story about falling out of love with one's self. It also shares the difficulties young black men have opening up and the importance of knowing that we are loved even when we don't love ourselves.
Even in dark moments where we feel like running away from everything and everyone:
there is reason to stay and know that there is hope for us yet.
Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
