    Our building got a makeover!

If 2020 taught us anything it is that our theatre is nothing without our people; our freelance artists and employees, tech and front of house staff, and our loyal, risk-taking audiences from the vibrant communities in Camden and beyond.

We are called Camden People’s Theatre after all.

Whilst the pandemic forced us to close our doors, we were able to spend that time re-developing our building to better serve the people and communities that make CPT (without losing our mission, values and of course, the warm and homely charm of our space). We continue to be the alternative, radical, community-focused theatre in the centre of London but with a vastly improved and more accessible space.

    Here’s what's new at CPT:

    • A re-developed theatre, foyer and rehearsal space, with improved facilities that will better serve the 300+ theatre makers and 17,000 audiences that pass through the doors every year
    • Co-designed with CPT artists, staff, audiences and community members, the building is more accessible, more sustainable and made to better serve our community (facilitated by the co-designed process with De Matos Ryan)
    • A vastly improved on-street presence that celebrates the original pub architecture and provides a vibrant gateway for Drummond Street
    • For those who know us well – we’re glad to say that the massive pillar in the theatre has been removed and the fact that our new acoustic walls will stop you being able to hear even the quietest of conversations in the bar!

We couldn’t be more grateful to our funders who have made this all possible; Arts Council England, Viridor Credits Environmental Trust, the Foyle Foundation, London Borough of Camden,  Cockayne - Grants for the Arts, London Community Foundation, Euston Town Bid, Theatre’s Trust, the Cockayne Foundation, the Department for Media & Sport, Backstage Trust and all of the individuals who have contributed to the project . Thank you!
