  • Trans Takeover 2025

    Image:

Applications for our new programming opportunity, TRANS TAKEOVER, are open now!

    Deadline 18th August

Applications are open for Trans Takeover, with applications via Eventotron - link here.

To apply, you will first need to create a free account with or sign into an existing account with Eventotron

Or, if you’d prefer to send a video or audio file, that’s great - email it to artists@cptheatre.co.uk with the subject line ‘Viva la Trans Joy’

At CPT, we believe that the right to expression, to entertainment, to imagination, is a human right. We believe in the right to resistance, the right to rage, the right to rest. We also believe
that joy is political, and that laughter, music and fun are also acts of resistance in oppressive contexts. In the face of ongoing and escalating transphobia and hostility, we want to hand over our building to the trans community, for whatever you want to do with it.

CPT is looking for three trans, non binary, or gender non-conforming creatives to programme three Saturday night slots in our Autumn Season. These could be performances, social events, activism meetups, talks, or something we haven’t thought of. We want you to tell us what a great night out looks like for you, whether that night is focussed on joy, rest, solidarity, or community. You bring the vision, and we’ll do the boring jobs.

The slots are on Saturdays, the 18th and 25th October, and the 1st November at 9pm.

The successful programmers will make the decisions, plan and oversee their slot, with our support. This might look like creating or remounting your own solo performance, gathering a line-up of acts, identifying and inviting a speaker or author, booking a facilitator, or running your own workshop.

We will cover all the admin - the contracting, the risk assessments, the scheduling, the invoicing. We will also offer you dramaturgy, directing, and creative support from partner artist Greta Rilletti-Zaltieri (https://gretatheatre.carrd.co/) - if your idea isn’t fully formed, we can work together to build it! The events can be in our theatre, bar, or basement rehearsal room, and we’d love to include as many people as possible, so ideally will have the capacity for 30-60 people, but we are also open to smaller events.

    You will get:
-£500 budget, to be split as you see fit
    -Bespoke administrative support
    -Bespoke marketing support
-The offer of up to 3 x 1 hour mentoring sessions with our Artistic Director Rio, to focus on whatever part of your creative or career journey is useful

We value intersectionality, and welcome and encourage applications from individuals without formal education; and/or from a low socio-economic background and/or who identify as:

    D/deaf and/or disabled
    Neurodiverse
    Global majority* and/or migrant

*This includes people of Black Caribbean, Black African, South Asian, East Asian, South East Asian, Middle Eastern, Arab, Latinx, Jewish, Romany and Irish Traveller heritage.

Video and audio submissions can be accepted in place of a written application, just follow the instructions on Eventotron to submit.

For any questions, accessibility requirements, or if you require the application form in a different format, please email artists@cptheatre.co.uk

Tobi King Bakare and this theatre deserve a shout-out for such a young, diverse audience. There is so much talk about audiences being full of over 60s and why, why can’t theatres get the crowds in to reflect society in general? Well, I’m happy to say that on a rainy Thursday evening, the theatre was completely full.
