Drawing from published writings, exclusive interviews and prison memoirs of Indian political prisoners across time, interspersed with personal reflections and interviews of political activists, this show is an exploration of what it means to be free and the costs of defending human rights.
The spoken word, sound and visual media in the public domain collectively paint a collage of the lived experiences of the unjustly incarcerated and offer a peek into the life in India’s prisons as well as other trappings outside of the jail. Dramatized testimonies of writers, artists and lawyers imprisoned for their work and ideas, juxtaposed with interviews of ‘free’ activists resisting the everyday oppressions and the makers’ reflections, this performance will ask: what does freedom look like today?
Thank you for allowing artists to take creative risks, the world needs it now more than ever.
